New $2 million grant funding for heritage building upgrades

Owners and managers of heritage-listed buildings can now get financial assistance for energy efficiency upgrades through a new grants scheme.

The NSW Government’s Heritage Green Energy Grants aim to help businesses in heritage-listed buildings use energy more efficiently.

Help available for newer buildings

A new report highlights how more efficient buildings can reduce emissions and save $20 billion in energy costs.

The Low Carbon, High Performance report from the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) also notes that while the building sector produces almost a quarter of Australia’s emissions, existing technology can reduce this significantly with the right governmental support.

For NSW building owners and managers, a financial support package for energy efficiency is available to owners and managers of office buildings in NSW with a NABERS energy assessment of three stars or less, courtesy of the ‘No More Average Buildings’ campaign.

Support packages are also available for buildings that fall outside this category

An upcoming training course aims to help you save up to half your heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) energy costs.

The HVAC course, which takes place on 19 and 20 July in Sydney CBD, consists of two separate modules, enabling you to choose which course date may be most applicable to your business.

Attendance gives you access to a half-day one-on-one site visit, as well as post-training support to help you implement HVAC energy efficiency opportunities specific to your site.

Snapshot of success

“We’ve installed a 99kwh solar power system, bought a new solar hot water system and installed a more efficient 160hp compressor. We’re also progressively changing over our lighting – you could get a tan with all the energy efficient fluoros we have in the office now! All of this has resulted in an energy saving of over 30% off our bills. ” Paul Livermore, finance director, Chemson Pacific
